In the NFL you see all the time the “Passer Rating” numbers for the quarterbacks. But have you ever wondered how that number is obtained?
If you have four required statistics then you can calculate the quarterback “Passer Rating”.
What statistics you will need:
(1) Number of Completions
(2) Yards Gained Per Completion
(3) Touchdowns Scored
(4) Interceptions Thrown
Now using the above statistics and the formula below you can calculate the quarterback’s “Passer Rating” or as some like to say the “Quarterback Rating”.
The Formula:
Completions ÷ 478 = C
Yards Gained ÷ 478 = Y
Touchdowns ÷ 478 = T
Interceptions ÷ 478 = I
( Quarterback Rating )
( C -
( Y -
T x .2 = TT
2.375 -
CC + YY + TT + II = Total
( Total ÷ 6 ) x 100 = Passer Rating
